clear aligners & your social life

The reality is, there’s nothing in your lifestyle that you can’t do!

People all over the world are waking up to the many benefits of clear aligners. If you’re hoping to straighten your smile, they offer an alternative to traditional braces, plus, they’re practically invisible.

It’s so easy! The road to clear aligners starts with a simple 3D scan, offered here at smilogy. Our Australian dentists and orthodontists work on a custom plan for you and send out your aligners. Each set of aligners moves your teeth slightly closer to their goal position. This usually only takes between 6-18 months.

You might be put off by the idea of straightening your smile as an adult. The reality is, there’s nothing in your lifestyle that you can’t do while undergoing alignment.

Providing aligners are worn for 20-22+ hours a day, they’re totally removable. Don’t forget to carry your case and a mini dental kit wherever you go.

What you do is up to you, but here are a few ideas!

When you wear traditional braces, some foods are sadly “off-limits”. They get stuck, they stain, and they’re just an all-round logistical nightmare.

Since you take clear aligners out to eat, you can have anything! While as dentists we do recommend staying away from foods that stain your own teeth or things that are filled with sugar, in theory you can just eat as normal.

With drinks, it’s a bit more complicated. There’s no need to take your aligners out for water or white wines, for example, but when it comes to those pesky reds and coffees, we recommend you do.

After each meal, simply brush your teeth, floss, rinse and pop the aligners back in.

strike a pose

If you had braces as a child, chances are that you cringe looking back on old pics! Never fear, with clear aligners, you won’t notice whether they’re in or out.

Posing with the clear aligners in will hardly be noticed, but if you’re going for a close-up you can simply remove the aligners for however long it takes to get that perfect shot. Your secret’s safe with us!

say “i do”

Getting married is a big incentive that smilogy customers have for straightening their smiles. But what happens if you haven’t finished treatment when the big day rolls around?

Have no fear! You can remove your aligners for the ceremony. Try to always stick to your 20-22+ hours of daily wear, but if you ever slip up, there are things you can do.

We provide “chewies” for all aligner wearers. As the name implies, you chew on them to help fix your aligners more precisely into place so they can do their job. These are especially useful if you’ve had a momentary lapse!

go on dates

Not quite ready to walk down the aisle? There’s no need for your dating life to take a pause while you’re wearing clear aligners.

You already know you can remove them to eat, but if your date doesn’t involve eating, it’s unlikely they’ll be noticed anyway.

If you’re feeling fairly confident and know you’ll be going in for a kiss, it’s up to you whether you kiss with them in. It can take some getting used to, so maybe take them out discreetly at some point so you don’t kill the mood!

play your favourite sports

If you’re just going to the gym or you love to dance, the chances are that you can leave your aligners in as you workout.

However, if contact sports are more your thing, it’s best to remove your aligners while you’re in play.

Both smilogy and the Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommend custom mouthguards for all sports where there’s a chance of collision.

You want to protect your investment, so protect your smile!
