If you’re awaiting final restoration and have already undergone some tooth prep, here’s what to expect next.
After your lovely dentist has prepared your tooth for a permanent crown, it may well be feeling highly sensitive. This is because some filing or removal of your own tooth is required.
Adding a temporary crown seals your tooth off in the meantime. It’s worth noting that your temporary crown won’t look like your end goals. It isn’t fitted as precisely, nor is it colour matched as perfectly as your eventual one will be.

Putting a temporary crown over your tooth while waiting for your long-term crown is good for both your teeth and gums. It helps in the fight against bacteria, keeping it from putting your smile at risk.
A temporary crown also helps in keeping your bite level, while preventing the surrounding teeth closing in and crowding.
While wearing your temporary crown, you’ll be able to eat and smile normally. It’s also more aesthetically pleasing as well. Instead of walking around with a little nub, you’ll have something which passes as natural.

Your temporary crown isn’t built to last. That means you’ll have to show it some extra attention, because it’s only fixed on with weak crown cement.
You’ll need to avoid food and drink until the cement sets. Once it’s set, be gentle with your brushing and flossing to avoid pulling it off, and stay away from things that are super hot or cold, as you may be sensitive.
While you’re still wearing it, don’t eat anything that could cause it to fall out. That means you’ll have to stay away from sticky and chewy things for a little while.
If it comes off, fix it back on with denture adhesive. Then call smilogy (or your local dentist) immediately.
