Snoring and your smile may not seem related – but for dentists, they really are. At smilogy, we care about your overall health and wellness, which often begins in your mouth. We may be able to help with snoring using custom oral appliances.
Snoring is loud, annoying, embarrassing – and could even be a sign of a health problem such as sleep apnoea. It’s time you learned how your dentist can help.
oral appliance therapy
If you’re keeping yourself or your loved one awake and you’ve read what makes snoring worse and yet nothing you’ve tried has worked so far, your dentist may be able to help.
At smilogy, we use oral appliances which look a lot like sports mouthguards, which are designed to be slept in. These special mouthguards work by supporting the jaw, helping to keep airways open and breathing unobstructed.
why is dental treatment necessary?
When airways are open, there are fewer vibrations caused by friction – vibrations which sound to us like loud snores.
However, it’s not just the noise that makes snoring a problem. When snoring is a sign of sleep apnoea, breathing is interrupted during sleep. This can mean your body doesn’t get the rest and oxygen it needs, which can leave you feeling tired and may be linked with other health issues.
Sleep apnoea is diagnosed by a doctor, often with a sleep study. If you’re worried that your snoring could be more than just noise, see your GP.
treat snoring with smilogy
At smilogy, we take precise impressions of your smile using 3D scanning. This means the mouthguard we then create is custom-fit to your contours, so it’s less likely to move around as you sleep.
Because they’re not one-size-fits-all, these mouthguards are designed to be comfortable. Most people can breathe, talk and sleep normally while wearing one.
Our mouthguards are discreet, and you won’t need noisy apparatus. They’re easy to care for and easy to take away with you. If it’s your partner who snores, you might also like my partner’s snoring is so annoying.
